Arts Research Board

The Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) provides funding to the University through an Institutional Grant (SIG) for support of research program requirements up to $7,000 and research-related conference travel in the humanities, social sciences and business.

To be eligible for ARB funding an applicant must be affiliated with McMaster University and must be eligible for SSHRC funding under the SSHRC Institutional Grant (SIG) Program.  The following will be considered affiliated with McMaster University:

* Faculty members of McMaster University with a tenured or tenure-stream academic appointment
* Former faculty members of McMaster University who have retired while holding a tenured academic appointment
* Persons appointed to McMaster University with term or contractually-limited academic appointments covering the period over which the grant would be held
* Postdoctoral fellows who are conducting scholarly activity in the humanities or social sciences and who are supervised by a faculty member of McMaster University who holds a tenured or tenure-stream appointment
* Other persons, including Adjunct Professors and Professional Librarians, who hold permanent appointments at McMaster University and who meet SSHRC eligibility criteria for SIG funding.

ARB competitions are held each spring and fall. Deadlines for these competitions are March 31 and October 31, respectively. The following are the categories of grants supported by ARB:

d. Major Collaborative Grants

Centre for Leadership and Learning

The Centre for Leadership in Learning (CLL) is a resource for everyone who teaches at McMaster University. CLL provides support for small and large projects designed to enhance the quality of students’ learning. Applications for small teaching and learning projects requiring no more than $1,000 may be submitted at any time during the year. Projects requiring more than $1000 are considered large projects and are subject to an annual competition. The deadline for applications is typically the end of February each year with the results of the competition announced in April.

Funding is not available from CLL to support educational research.
