BScN Basic: Admission Information and Requirements
What courses do I need if I am applying from high school?
- English U
- One of Advanced Functions U, or Mathematics of Data Management U, Calculus and Vectors U
- Biology U
- Chemistry U
- Two additional Grade 12 U or M courses to total six.
What was the admission average last year?
The admission average can vary each year but it has been 87% for the last few years.
Is a supplementary application required if I am applying from high school?
No, a supplementary application is not required.
What is admission based on for high school students?
Admission is based solely on your grades.
Do you have a mature student category?
No, we do not. If you are not applying as a high school student, you must have a university background.
What are the requirements to apply as an applicant with a university background?
Applicant must have at least 12 units (2 full credits or 4 half credits) of university work with an overall 70% average. The 12 units can be in anything, as long as they are university level courses. The pool of applicants for this category is very competitive and in recent years the admission average has been high 80’s.
Do you look at all of my university courses or just my current course work?
All of your university work will be taken into consideration. Applicants must have an cumulative GPA of 70% or higher to be eligible to apply.
How many spots are there for applicants with a university background?
There are approximately 10 spots.
I am currently enrolled in a pre-health science program at a college. Am I eligible?
Please Note: If you have previous university degree credit(s), you are NOT eligible to use Pre-Health as a route to apply to the McMaster BScN Program
Yes, applicants must complete a full pre-health sciences program at any Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) which is at least two semesters in length and includes at least one full (two semesters) or two half courses in each of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. Applications will not be considered from applicants who possess credit only in the required subjects. Applicants must achieve at least a cumulative average in the pre-health sciences program that meets the minimum cut-off average for the Basic (A) Stream Nursing Program. Note: Transfer credit will not be granted for any pre-health sciences courses.
