McMaster Site Awards
The table below provides a brief overview of the awards available to McMaster Site nursing students. Some awards require applications, some require nominations and others are awarded based on academic achievement. The process to nominate / apply for the award is listed under the award description and a link provided. While a call for nominations will occur at the end of each term, faculty and students are able to nominate students at any time during the academic year. The awards have been grouped by level of student but please refer to the award description.

Recognition awards have replaced the traditional book awards and are used to recognize students in any level for outstanding contributions within the BScN program that may not fit into the established nursing awards. |

The Margaret Elizabeth Burke Memorial Academic Grant |
$2,900 |
Awarded to the student with the highest grade in Level I Anatomy/Physiology courses and demonstrated financial need |
The Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara Scholarship (awarded every 3 years) |
$800 (each year) |
Awarded to a student with outstanding achievement in health sciences and behavioural science courses. |
The Henrietta Alderson Scholarship |
$3,150 |
Awarded to 2 students with exceptional achievement in the required science courses. |
The Eleanor Morris Academic Grant |
$800 |
Awarded to a student who has completed Level I with a high sessional average & demonstrates financial need |
The Niemeier Scholarship |
$1,100 |
Awarded to a student who has completed Level I and has the highest sessional average and has 31 -55 units |
| The Clarence L. Starr Prize | $150 | Awarded to a student who has completed Nursing I and attains the highest sessional average |
McKusker Nursing Scholarship |

Awarded to a student who has completed at least Level 1 and who has demonstrated academic excellence. (No nomination required) |

Awarded to a student who has Completed Level I & 70 – 80 units in Nursing Program & is committed to Gerontological Nursing |
The Clara I. Elman Travel Scholarship

Awarded to students registered in Level III & who will be completing a Level IV Clinical Course in a Canadian outpost placement (Student to complete an application package due in early February – Visit the McMaster Student Financial Aid and Scholarship Office website for details) |
The Grace Senra-Fontes Memorial Prize |

Awarded to a student in Level III or IV who demonstrates excellence in scholarship and leadership. Preference given to Level IV students. (Students will be asked to submit an application package in early March) |
The Janet McKnight Award

Awarded to a student entering level IV who has demonstrated academic achievement and leadership in clinical and educational aspects of gerontology or PBL or SDL in nursing education. |
The McMaster Nursing Alumni Memorial Prize |

Awarded to a student who has demonstrated leadership while participating in undergraduate activities. (Students will be asked to submit an application package in early March) |

Awarded to students in their first year of study who have demonstrated academic excellence in a Post RN or Post RPN program. |
The Elizabeth Petra Cooke Memorial Scholarship |

Awarded to a student in a Post RN or Post RPN program who has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of the nursing profession or to mentoring nurses as they further their education. |
The Corelene Helen Tostevin Scholarship |
$250 |
Five awards to be granted to students who are registered in a Post-RN program and who have demonstrated notable academic achievement. |
The Henrietta Alderson Scholarship |
$3,150 |
Awarded to 2 students with exceptional achievement in the required science courses. |
Awards originating at Conestoga open to McMaster Site Students
The R.N.A.O. Wellington Chapter Award |
$500 |
Awarded to a graduating student who demonstrates professional development through participation in professional Nursing Student Association Activities. The student is a student member of R.N.A.O. and participates in community based activities. |
Guelph General Hospital Auxilliary Award |
$300 |
Awarded to a full time, graduating student who is a resident of Waterloo-Wellington region and achieves the highest academic standing. |

One scholarship to be awarded in the BScN program for a mature student who has maintained a minimum of B and, in the judgment of the School of Nursing, has demonstrated exception achievements required to meet the defined criteria. |

One scholarship to be awarded in the BScN program for a full time student who, in the judgment of the School of Nursing, has demonstrated exceptional achievements required to meet the defined criteria. |
Brant Community Health Care System |

One scholarship to be awarded in the BScN program for a student who has demonstrated excellent academic standing and clinical performance and, in the judgment of the School of Nursing, has demonstrated exceptional achievements required to meet the defined criteria. |
